That’s part of who Claire is. I won’t write you a long and detailed character analysis (tired at the moment) so I’ll try to keep it short. How do I explain…

First of all, their last name is Fisher. That’s not meaningless - it was chosen because all of the characters are looking for something. Fishing, essentially, for happiness, peace. So you have to keep in mind, Claire is not happy… none of them are. So she complains because of that. I can understand being annoyed because honestly, I hate it when people complain all the time. What you have to understand about Claire though is that she’s trapped and scared. She knows she isn’t happy where she is (a primary reason for her complaints) but can’t really do anything about it either - because she’s still young, has nowhere else to go. She tries to make something of herself with her art later, but that’s not an easy thing to do. Her family is strange, she’s surrounded by death, and she still doesn’t know who she is, really. So it’s understandable she’s a little upset.

But that’s just Claire. She talks and expresses herself a lot. She lets it all out and is very wordy. And it just comes out sounding like complaints - sometimes they are, but other times I think she’s just trying to help herself and others understand what she’s feeling, without the complaining intention. She’s different from her siblings in that way they deal with stress and unhappiness. Claire complains, Nate runs, David bottles. 

How I feel about her? I adore her. Her complaining? It can be an annoying part of her character, but it’s very human thing. It doesn’t sit right with everyone but it sits okay with me. You just have to understand that these are very very well written and human characters and that they all make you mad sometimes - they’re not perfect! Just as real people are. We’re not perfect. Part of why I love the show :’) So that’s why I still love her. 

haha :) i don’t ship them but i do love the dynamics of their relationship, and i adore them both individually. so many moser brothers feelings T___T 

I thank god the SFU fandom is still decently active on tumblr, and that it gives me so much to reblog. Though I’m going to be rewatching it as soon as I’m done with Lost (about halfway through s3 right now) and will definitely be making/posting stuff. THE POINT IS, GOOD. I’m glad you’re going to watch it! Literally one of the best shows in existence. I won’t lie, it will kill you in the feelings department. But. It’s so fantastic.

oh! now i remember! thanks anon :) it’s just been a year since i’ve seen seasons 1-3. i want to rewatch but i have so much on my list (lost, sfu rewatch, a:tla, mad men)… it’s gonna be a busy summer! 

I’ve seen the one with her, Charisma, and Jaime! They were all so gorgeous :’) I’m really really happy for her! 

it’s hard to pinpoint exactly. but it’s one of the four arcade fire songs that has made me cry at some point in time (suburbs, suburbs cont., ready to start, rebellion) 

ready to start is one of those songs with lyrics that don’t lay everything it for you. like, they definitely rely heavily on personal interpretation. they’re beautiful lyrics but not 100% clear in what they should mean to you. and i really like that actually because it makes me think. 

i think, for me, it’s about rising above, grabbing your independence and your individuality by the reigns. about breaking away from the culture that tries to control you - the businessman, the emperor with no clothes (‘the emperor’ i believe is the same thing as business/industry, which tells you what you’re supposed to like. basically, industry they control culture.) 

it also kind of makes the think, don’t be scared of being alone. “If I was yours, but I’m not,” and also “I would rather be alone than pretend I feel alright.” Aloneness sucks sometimes but there’s also something to be said for it. When we are alone we find ourselves, discover who we are. When we are alone, we make ourselves. Without the influence of culture telling us who to be, without the influence of others making us go do things we don’t really feel like doing. 

And notice, they don’t even start saying “ready to start” till the end of the song. It’s like, the person has found who they are and are ready to go out into the world, without being ashamed of who they are, without being scared. “My mind is open wide.” Also, the “I would rather be wrong than live in the shadows of your song” - again, that’s saying, I’d rather be who I am, I’d rather be wrong, than be controlled by somebody else.

It’s all about independence. Self discovery. Not letting other people tell you who to be, and not being ashamed of who you are. It’s about the strength to stick to your guns and go out into the world, proclaiming “this is who I am.”
